Travel Information
You will find it easier to fly to Larnaka
International Airport which is 40 minutes away from Nicosia and the
Conference venue. The only other option is to fly to Pafos International
Airport which is 2 hours away. (No transportation arrangements are
offered for Pafos).
Please note that, due to the political
situation in Cyprus, you will not be allowed by Immigration Officials to
enter the southern Greekpart of the island if you choose to arrive in
Cyprus at any other airport except Larnaca Airport or Pafos Airport. In
particular, if you choose to fly via Turkey to the area controlled by
Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots on the northern side of the island you
will be considered to have arrived through an illegal entry process.
When you arrive at the airport you can follow signs for a TAXI and you
can then take a taxi directly to your place of stay. This should cost
you somewhere around 25 Cyprus pounds (40 Euro) depending on the time of
your arrival. You will need the name and city of your place of stay.
Please also check with your travel agent for
information regarding visa requirements for travelling to Cyprus and to
Egypt.
Local
Information
Electricity supply in Cyprus is at 240
volts. We use three-prong (English type) plugs. If you plan to bring a
laptop computer, you can use continental Europe plugs by just directly
plugging them into local sockets. Computer power supplies automatically
switch between 120 and 240 V. Hence you do not need to be concerned.
The average temperature in Cyprus is 30 Celsius during the day and 22
Celsius during the night. If you enjoy swimming, you could also bring a
swimsuit (recommended!). For those of you who will join the conference
excursion, we will have the opportunity to swim in the afternoon.
Accommodation
We have managed to get very good prices
for conference participants at the
Hilton Park, in Nicosia. For details, see hotel website. For rates,
see the registration form.
About Cyprus
We are doing our best to ensure that the conference will
be an enjoyable experience for all participants. Cyprus is a beautiful
Mediterranean island in the south-east cornerstone of Europe. Nicosia,
the host city, deserves a visit for its mediaeval walls, its narrow
streets and its many tavernas where you can find delicious traditional
Cypriot food and wine. It is a rather small city of 200000 people with
hot summer days but cool evenings, excellent services, infrastructure
and organization. The city is 40 minutes away from some of the best
beaches in the world and only about an hour away from some of the oldest
surviving wall and floor mosaics in the world. We are looking forward to
meeting you all in Cyprus.
